On 11 July 2014, Emanuelson signed a one-year deal with Roma with the option for the club to extend his contract for another two seasons. Emanuelson then played four times in the UEFA Europa League Qualifying Stage, where FC Utrecht reached the play–off round, only to lose against Zenit Saint Petersburg following a 2–1 loss on aggragate. Emanuelson made his league debut for the club and set up the second goal of the game, in a 3–0 win against ADO Den Haag in the opening game of the season. Since making his debut for FC Utrecht, he quickly became a first team regular, playing in different midfield positions and left–back position. By the second half of the season, Emanuelson soon lost his first team place following the new arrival of Manager Jean-Paul de Jong.
